It is appreciated when someone tells me, “thank you for your service.” However, that’s as far as it goes for today’s Americans.
When it comes to actually helping a veteran (especially pre-9/11 disabled veterans), people won’t even give a dollar to help. They will give bums in the street money, but not a lousy dollar to someone that has served his country and is now permanently disabled as a result. How can a bum’s life be worth more than a person that served his country and paid the price for your freedoms?
They might say that they give to charitable organizations that help veterans. Usually, they are lying, but for the sake of argument, let’s say they are all telling the truth.
Less than half of the money raised by charities actually goes to helping anyone. Most of it goes to advertising and the extremely high salaries of the charity’s executives.
I’ve seen veterans’ pleas for help go unanswered on a site called GoFundMe while those same people eagerly donate to extremely stupid things like buying ladders so people can enter our nation illegally. News flash people, conspiriring to aid illegal activities is also illegal!
If you really want to make a difference and show real appreciation, then help your fellow American veterans when they need it.
